When my heart is captured by the beauty of a line of lyric, a melody aimed at my heart, or a performance filled with the fire of creation, I remember all over again why I love music so much. I live for those moments, and I think many artists, musicians, writers and creative talent do too. We need a place to create and grow. That is why I believe in Ben Smith Music Company.
I think about the times earlier in my playing career when the possibility of reaching out to established people in the music business seemed so hard. To be taken seriously seemed impossible. Of the many things I’ve learned, finding and holding onto friends and colleagues who are active in their careers at a high level is not only possible, it’s necessary. Reaching out to musicians, artists and other talented people who want to create, and who are interested in making work that is vital, engaging and is the clearest possible picture of their vision is what I want to do. Helping people make music, recording work that satisfies their spirits, hearts and minds and engages them in new ways is what I offer.
I feel really happy when I see the lights turn on for people who I record or perform with. The feeling of wholeness and satisfaction that we can achieve is so motivating that I want to make sure artists have the opportunity to experience it and enjoy it. This is not a straight road, and flexibility is required! If I breathe and take the process one step at a time, I find joy in the little accidents and the big changes that can lead to a more musical and inspiring result.
