Anytime I get to play it’s a wonderful thing. I am so grateful to perform and record with a wide variety of songwriters, projects, artists, musicians, bands and producers. These can include film, tv and radio music, independent releases, signed acts, performance artists and the occasional piano playing kitten.
Being asked to give my all to a music project is always an honor, it means that the people who called me want me to provide the light that I can bring to their work of audio magic. I think it’s really important to remember that there are fantastic musicians all over the world, and to be called to work with folks means they believe in my talent.
I also love to watch people who love to perform! The passion, emotion and inspiration that I witness when watching musicians who play their hearts out is a big motivator. I believe that all that passion is what makes good music great. All audience members hope to be transported to that moment of new-ness and creation that happens when inspired musicians find the thread of connection with each other.
The electricity that happens when the crowd and musicians are all ready for magic is tangible. That moment of wondering what is going to happen is why I play. On a good night, it feels like plugging into the essence of life, giving and receiving the joy that live musical art can bring.
For me, that is the value of seeing talented performers do their thing. It connects me with life, and with other people. I can see the magic, take part in it and experience it, which is so good.
