Take Advantage of Drum Clinics While Ben is Touring in Your Area

With a strong track record of musical success and a love of sharing what I do with other musicians, it’s been a blast to do drum clinics across the US and Canada.

Sharing a program of drumming basics, recording techniques, and anecdotes, while showing how I apply them when performing and recording, is what drum clinics are about for me.

I go over relaxation, posture, the importance of finding teachers and applying yourself, the strength of drumming fundamentals, odd-meter, some perspective on music from other cultures, and how having fun changes the end product of playing the drums.

I especially love the Q&A sessions during a clinic, and I sometimes bring a special guest, my tech Matt Sabin, to discuss drum tuning and construction, head choices, and what to think about when doing maintenance on drums.

We had Ben in to do an in-store event at Eckroth Music on Monday, March 23rd, the night before a “Heart” performance, and we had about 40 people in attendance from middle school age to adult. Ben played for the audience, but also really spoke to the kids in the crowd, about how he got started playing drums and the importance of practicing your rudiments, practicing with a metronome and taking lessons. He stressed the importance of continuing to study and learn all of the time.

My favorite part was watching Ben interact with the young students after the event was over. Kids and adults stayed to have Ben autograph sticks and he would spend lots of time with them, especially the kids. He is very genuine and makes each person he is addressing feel like they are the only one in the room. Ben was great to work with in preparing for this event, and I would whole-heartedly encourage anyone who is thinking about hosting such an event as this, to do it. We had a great time with Ben and our customers did too!
